Default Photoshop Elements 5.0 Scanning Issues

I have just got a new computer with Vista Home Premium Edition
pre-installed and installed Photoshop Elements 5.0 on it. I am using it
to import large newspaper pages from my Sharp AR-M160
photocopier/scanner/laser printer.

I have been doing this for a couple of year with my former Windows XP
machine and it's always worked perfectly. However, now it starts to scan
or preview then either tells me there is a problem with the scanner and
the photocopiter flashes E7 or it scans and then tells me there is
insufficient memory to transfer the data.

My new machine has plenty of memory so I don't see how this can be a
problem.

I have installed the Patcher 5.0.2 and it still has this problem and I
can use the scanner with other programs such as Microsoft Office
Document Scanner and Windows Photo Gallery but I really need to use PSE.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? Thank you very much in advance.
